||The annual Chesterfield May Day is held on the first Monday after the beginning of May, one of the biggest celebrations of working class solidarity in the country. 10.30am Assemble outside Chesterfield Town Hall on Rose Hill. 11.00am The march moves off through the town arriving at New Square for the Rally. The afternoon is full of activities and entertainment celebrating international workers´ day. This year, 2017, will be the 40th annual Chesterfield May Day People´s Gala and Demonstration.
Over the years Chesterfield May Day has developed into one of the best attended and well supported May Day events in the country. With a large and colourful march through the town led off by the Ireland Colliery Band, inspiring Labour Movement speakers, bustling campaign stalls filling New Square, free concerts and other entertainment. This is an event not to be missed.
