Bike ride for May Day bank holiday: Remember Socialism?

Spend May Day bank holiday touring the city with two fund-raising rides to raise funds for a work of art to commemorate radical thinker and socialist Edward Carpenter's links to Sheffield and to initiate a walking/cycling Carpenter trail.Morning ride: Start Barkers Pool 10am. Route in and around the city, with stops to talk about Carpenter and his life and work. Visiting where Carpenter lodged, lectured and spoke in Sheffield. Probably with a picnic lunch in Paradise Square. About 10 miles, finish by 12 noon.Afternoon Ride: Start Peace Gardens 1pm. Cycle out to Millthorpe to pass by places where Carpenter lived and worked on the outskirts of Sheffield and visit Carpenter's house at Millthorpe. Refreshments at the Royal Oak in Millthorpe where Carpenter sometimes played the piano. About 20 miles, back in town by about 5pm.
