Course: Sheffield Activism - Rebellion to Cold War

A course on Sheffield´s long history of people´s activism, run by the WEA (Workers´ Educational Association). Tutor (and activist) Nigel Slack will cover the period 1500-1950 in this series of 2-hour sessions.

NOTE you can choose 3pm or 6pm start time. Fee £87.50, all details on the link below, including downloadable full course information sheet. The course is suitable for beginners or improvers, no pre-reading is required.

26 Feb to 2 Mar 2019, 7.30pm, Lantern Theatre, 18 Kenwood Park Rd. S7 1NF

A new folk opera telling the true story of women chainmakers involved in the ‘home-working sweated industries’, working in the backyards of their homes. Union organiser and campaigner Mary Reid Macarthur led hundreds of women to strike for a living wage, helping to form the principle of a national minimum wage. The role of trade unionist and strike leader Mary is performed by Scottish folk singer Bryony Purdue.
