Exhibition: "Art Against War"

On now til Sun 7 Oct 2018, Millennium Gallery, Arundel Gate S1 2PP

The Millennium Gallery in central Sheffield is showing "Art Against War: Peter Kennard and the CND Movement". Peter Kennard made powerful photo-montages for the peace movement in Britain through the 1970s and 80s. The exhibition is worth seeing, both as a look back and as an inspiration in the struggle for a better world in the future.

Opens Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 11am-4pm, Bank Holidays 11am-4pm. Free entry (donations welcome).

Lantern-making workshops

Sundays 23, 30 Sep & 7th Oct, 1-4pm, Burngreave Chapel, Burngreave Cemetery, Melrose Rd S3 9DN

Make your own big illuminated lantern for the Friends of Parkwood Springs procession (see 13th Oct). Free to attend workshops with Patrick Amber. Materials provided.

There are also children's lantern-making workshops (details online here).

Thursdays 20, 27 Sep; 4 & 11 Oct, 3-6pm, Pitsmoor Adventure Playground, Burngreave Street S3 9DN

Kids are welcome to make big illuminated lantern for the Friends of Parkwood Springs procession (see 13th Oct). Free to attend workshops with Patrick Amber, materials provided, bring your friends.

Children under 8 yrs must be supervised. There are also adult lantern-making workshops (details online here).

"People vs. PFI"

An exhibition about the notorious Private Finance Initiatives which have damaged public services and put billions into private pockets. Including on Wed 3rd October (5.30–7pm, Union Street) a talk by Dr Stuart Hodkinson of Leeds University, presenting research and solutions to PFI contracts, with Q&A and new & second hand book sale.

Part of "Vision Sheffield", a 2-week festival of political change, of alternatives, of celebrations of socialist achievements and demands for the many not the few.
